PFM

Porcelain fused to metal (PFM) crowns have been a trusted dental restoration solution for over 60 years. Combining the strength and durability of metal with the aesthetic beauty of porcelain, PFM crowns offer patients natural-looking, long-lasting restorations.

How PFM Crowns Are Made?

Our skilled dental technicians create PFM crowns in our state-of-the-art lab using a specialized fabrication process:

  • First, an impression is taken of the prepared tooth by the dentist and sent to our dental lab.
  • Our technicians then create a metal substructure that precisely fits the prepared tooth. This metal framework, made of biocompatible metals like high noble gold or nickel-free cobalt chromium, provides essential strength to the restoration.
  • Next, layers of tooth-colored dental porcelain are applied by hand and fused to the metal substructure in a high-heat porcelain oven. This gives the PFM crown a natural, aesthetic appearance that matches the patient’s surrounding teeth.
  • Finally, the PFM crown is contoured, polished, and shaded to precisely match the patient’s smile. It is then sent back to the dentist for a comfortable, accurate placement.

Benefits of PFM Crowns

There are many reasons PFM crowns remain a trusted, recommended restoration by dentists:

  • Proven Durability: With over 50 years of clinical success, PFM crowns have shown exceptional longevity when properly cared for, lasting 15-30 years on average.
  • Strength: The metal substructure gives PFM crowns high fracture resistance compared to all-ceramic crowns. This makes them ideal for posterior teeth that bear heavy biting forces.
  • Customized Esthetics: While strong, PFM crowns can also be beautifully customized to give patients natural-looking, confident smiles.
  • Biocompatibility: Modern PFM metals like cobalt chromium are nickel-free and hypoallergenic. This prevents metal sensitivity issues.
  • Affordability: PFMs offer durability and customization at a more affordable price point than other premium restoration options.

With advanced technology and craftsmanship, PFM crowns remain an exceptional, time-tested choice that combines strength, beauty, and value. Our dental lab has proudly provided dentists and patients with precisely-fitting, long-lasting PFM restorations for over 20 years.
